New Toys

I’ve got a ton of other things I was going to post about but my Lovely Wife derailed all that by getting me one of these for Xmas.

So I spent a bit of time hunting around looking at how people mount them on their motorcycle or helmet. I decided on my helmet to start with since the main reason I want it, is to get some pictures while I’m riding places and seeing some amazing stuff, but having too much fun to stop. So I wanted it to be able to see what I see (as much as possible).

This is what I ended up with:

Had to mount it up here because there is a small lip at the bottom of my helmet.

The side veiw.

I like this since you can’t see my bike or much of my helmet at all.

I’ve gotten some video of the long way home. I’m trying to edit out the really boring bits before I share it.

Edit 1/17/14: Here is some Video that I got on my second attempt.

About Scott Otte

I started riding motorcycles in 2006, and there is no going back. I'm closing in on 100,000 miles and despite setbacks and murderous BMW's I'm loving every mile.

  1. There is an alternative mount for the GoPro that mounts on the chin piece of your helmet.

See this clip for a demo http://youtu.be/aBm9-5hSQiE

They are not that expensive, and it gives a more rider like view.

Thanks for the the tip. I’ll check it out. My Arai has a small weird ridge/lip at the bottom that you can’t really see that makes it hard to attach below the visor.

Time for a new lid? =)

  2. LOL my wife gave me one for Xmas too. I have a fulmer flip up helmet to which I mounted the cam directly on top. I tried it out on a polar bear ride, the vid shows a bit of my windscreen (HD Uktra Limited) but it is a nice angle. Using the cam with heavy gloves was difficult, I had no idea when it was on or off.

How’s the drag feel with it on the top. I find it strange at anything above 55 mph. Not too uncomfortable, but I don’t think I’ll have it on my helmet for lots of Freeway miles.

      • With the full fairing…did not feel anything at any speed. My biggest issue was I was unable to tell if it was on or off with the heavy gloves.

Also the battery died after about 35 minutes of use, I was surprised. I will have to play with the settings to figure out the best battery life.

I used mine on a whole 45 minute ride home filming at the highest rez with the wifi on… so something is wonky with your battery or something.
I’m riding a naked bike so.. lots of windblast.
As for telling if it was on or not I just looked for my reflection in the dash to see if the red light was flashing…
I’m posting a very short video later this week.
